Comfort Spaces
Description:
The first illustration is the comfort space of your bed. The comfort of your blanket keeping a person safe and being in that safe space.

The second illustration is the comfort of your zen room. With the relaxation of all the plants and the sunlight that adds to that comfort. It can't get anymore comforting at home
in the zen room.

The third illustration is the comfort of your bathtub. When I think of a bathtub, I thought of a water garden. I found all the sound of water flowing relaxing accompanied by the plants like lilly pads on the surface of the water.

The fourth illustration is the charging station. This can be in any room of your house. While your electronics recharge, you also need to recharge yourself. The comfort of being
able to rest.

The last illustration is the comfort in the library. The power of the imagination and books in a library can comfort a person and forget about all your problems. it allows ones self to get lost in the story the individual reads and lets those fictional stories come to life
in their minds.
Design Process
I was proposed to present my thesis for my fourth year. I had two thesis projects. This was the first one in that year. My proposal was a series of comfort spaces at home and narrate how powerful these safe spaces can be to me. These safe spaces would specifically be directed to taking care of your mental health and in addition, educate about how to care of that mental health.

Creating thumbnails would not be the only solution. This project took place from September to December. There was a lot of colour roughs and many consultations about making the message clear about the metaphors I illustrated.
More over, there was supposed to be a sixth illustration but due to time constraint, it didn't I wasn't able to create the sixth comfort space being light.

Below here are the phases the illustrations went through.

The first step before making any illustration for this series was creating the thumbnails and finding the best perspective and design that would suit these comfort spaces. The biggest challenge in this series was to find that metaphors that would visually describe comfort in the five different ways. After numerous sketches and different variations, you can see the settled final compositions.
As you can see above, this is the phases that each illustration went through after the compositions and colours were decided.

I found that I succeeded in finding great colour palettes but the struggled with creating certain forms or forming the hierarchy in these pieces.

I found the best solution with the forms was experimenting with different rendering methods or using different brushes to visually communicate to the audience. On the other hand, when it came to the hierarchy, I changed the colours. I put the focus on the characters or metaphors with high saturation and contrast so it is the first subject the viewer would see upon looking at this series of illustrations.
